How Long Does it Take to Remodel a Kitchen?

Updated: Jan 29

Setting a Budget

We spend almost 40 minutes a day in our kitchens preparing our meals, washing our dishes, and handling other needs. That's almost 5 hours a week just in your kitchen!

It's hard to undermine the value of a well-designed kitchen, and you might be noticing that it might be time for a remodel. While this might seem like a huge undertaking, understanding the project's undertaking will help it go smoothly.

But how long does it take to remodel a kitchen in Stockton? That's what we're looking at today, as we outline how long it takes to remodel a kitchen and everything else you need to know.

What to Know Before Remodeling Your Kitchen

Before you start planning your kitchen remodeling project, there are a few key factors that tend to slip people's minds.

Establishing a clear and realistic budget from the outset will give you more flexibility when figuring out your kitchen remodel timeline. However, knowing what you'll need and how much it'll all cost doesn't mean you won't face future setbacks.

Project delays such as product backorders are common, and contractor availability needs to be figured out beforehand. Try and build time around these factors when remodeling your kitchen.

Remember that a kitchen remodel in Stockton puts you out of a functioning kitchen for at least a few weeks. Prepare ahead of time to set up a temporary kitchen or purchase portable equipment to make sure you and your family will be set.

How Long Does it Take to Remodel a Kitchen?

Once you've figured out your budget and contacted the right people to get started, it's time to move onto the actual remodeling process. How long this can take will depend on the size and layout of your kitchen, so we're going to give a general timeline that applies to most kitchen remodel projects.

Removing Materials

First, it's time for the old kitchen to go. Once all the design has been finalized, your old kitchen needs to be taken out.

Removing your countertops, flooring, cabinets, and anything else that you no longer want or need is labor-intensive but not too time-consuming. The demolition process should take just a few days.

Mark + Paint

Now that everything's been removed, you need to mark specific parts of your kitchen, including power feeds and electrical outlets.

With all the furniture and appliances removed, this is also a good time to paint your walls since it'll be harder to do so once new countertops and appliances are installed. All of this should take about 2 to 5 days.

Install Mechanicals

Installing plumbing, HVAC, and electricals are going to take a little over a week. Plumbing can take a couple of days, while the HVAC and plumbing also take 2 to 3 days.

Put In Flooring

If you were planning on installing new flooring, now is the time to do so. Depending on what type of flooring you choose - ceramic, wood, and so on - it can take from 4 days to up to a week.

Install Counter Tops

When putting in your new countertops, make sure they're perfectly crafted and measured. If you've got granite countertops, it's going to take about 10 days to properly install.

You're almost done!

Finishing Up

With your floors in place, your countertop installed, and all your pipes and air conditioning figured out, you're finally in the home stretch.

Putting in electrical fixtures and other appliances should be done at this stage. You might also want to touch up some of your walls with a few layers of paint.
